For those of you who don’t know, certain feathers are illegal to collect in the United States. (I do not know if this “ban” occurs in other countries.) These are feathers from native migratory birds such as owls and hawks, and the birds are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
This may sound outrageous and “unfair,” but this act is to stop illegal feather trades and protect the birds themselves. Although you didn’t harm the bird for its feathers, there is no proof that you didn’t harm it.
I suggest everyone to read Lupa’s article on Witchvox: Do You Have Eagle Feathers?
For more information: Possession of Migratory Birds, Including Feathers, Nests, and Eggs
However, this doesn’t mean that you can no longer collect feathers. Just make sure you are collecting feathers from non-migratory and non-native birds.

I meant “stop illegal feather trades” not protect. Sorry for the silly typing error if any of you were confused.
In honor of Day of Silence, reblog if you’re a Pagan against gay bullying.
In China, live animals such as turtles and fishes are sealed inside plastic pouches to be used as keychains. Exposed to harsh dyes, the animals soon suffocate and die. This is 100% legal and becoming increasingly popular. REBLOG to spread the word and put a stop to this cruel practice.
Absolutely deplorable.
